EHL for Beirut

In August this year, a massive explosion occurred in the port area of Beirut, capital of Lebanon, injuring more than 6500 people and affecting the lives of hundreds of thousands. 

As you can imagine, our EHL Family in Lebanon are facing inconceivable devastation. Four months later, a lot has been done, but the work is far from finished. 

Walid Maalouf, an EHL graduate ‘93, has been spearheading interventions to support the many families who have been affected and left destitute by this disaster. He is the board general secretary and chair of fundraising and expansion of the Lebanese Food Bank (LFB) and through the organization, he has enacted numerous initiatives out in the field.  

They have partnered with several NGOs who are extremely challenged by various conditions, including: rain, cold, disastrous economy, corrupt politics and a global pandemic! At this point, Beirut is really being rebuilt by NGOs, however our support is going a long way. The current interventions aim to cover the needs of the beneficiaries for three months, whereas the rehabilitation intervention aims to cover all the house repairs and blast damages. The goal of these interventions is to bring people who are on the brink of poverty and have limited capacity to recover back on their feet. It's a one-time intervention. Other interventions also include providing basic medical and health assistance and food distribution.
